It’s glad to see the two famous Christian apologetic
organizations meet up and have a friendly discussion despite their differences.
Reasons to believe, Dr. Hugh Ross on one hand holds to concordist hermeneutics
while Dr. Craig holds to non-concordist. Reasons to believe is dedicated to
creation theology and specifically defending the Day-Age model of Genesis 1
which is again not of primary concern to reasonable faith despite Dr. Craig
being adherent of an old creation. Both of them agree on historic Adam while
differing on timeline of their existence.
They friendly get into discussion of central Christian
doctrines such as the fall, original sin, Jesus' nature, salvation by grace
through faith and end times doctrines. It’s glad to observe they are giving
priority space for the doctrines that matters primarily to our Christian faith
rather than the doctrines that can be examined and are flexible. The central
doctrines they discuss are commonly marginal lines of orthodoxy of Christian
identity. Every Christian must believe Trinity, Jesus’ divinity and humanity,
the creation by God, the Fall, the Sin entering into the world through one man,
redemption by grace through faith, Jesus’ work on cross, His second coming,
Judgment and ultimately the eternal future. No matter what denominations we subscribe,
these have been fundamental beliefs that identifies us as mere Christians.
Part 2 then goes into
discussion of cosmological models and the Big Bang. Both of them share their
fascinating opinions on Cosmological models, Fine tuning of the universe,
mathematics, and open-mind in fields of testing the models. They do agree in limitation
of human mind in determining the origin of the universe and existence of
various possible theories about the universe. Meanwhile, they look forward to
plausible cases that can be made to demonstrate the need of Supernatural
designer, creator and sustainer. Dr. Craig is more interested in defending the
need of an intelligent creator while Dr. Ross is more interested in creation
models, fine tuning and intelligent design.
This kind of open discussion is a real need for Nepali soil.
Most of Nepali churches are extremely getting into the denominational conflict.
Christians fail to realize that there are indeed areas where all can agree more
than disagree. Nepali Christians should also look forward in discussing
creation, fine tuning, and intelligent design but sadly many Christians here attempt
to speak against the Big Bang and evolution. Many are inflicted with Young
Earth Creationism and some holding to outdated theories. There seems no
theological updates.
Perhaps, this isn’t need of our country? Everyone are
theists and believe in some divine entity? However, this isn’t true. There is
need to demonstrate how cosmological aspect points to need of a creator and again
that creator is none other than God of the Bible! The origin of the universe,
fine tuning and design are still concerning ideas for scientists and philosophers
to this day!
