Criticism of "Seventh Day" Argument

Disclaimer:

This piece of article isn't about the criticism of the Old Earth Creation position in its essence since I too hold to this position with a non-concordist interpretation. I used to be a Day-Age creationist in my past. It’s not my aim to show that this is a weak position but my aim is to discuss why I think a particular argument of this position could be weaker.

The Day-Age version of OEC often argues that the other days could have been longer period since the seventh day doesn't have closing and according to the Hebrews we are still in that day (Heb. 4:3-7). One of the famous Christian figures who promotes this idea is Dr. Hugh Ross.[1]

However, this argument seems weaker for two reasons:

First, the six days clearly have evening and morning phrases and the seventh day lacking this phrase doesn't necessarily prove the prior days were lengthy time as well. It seems intentional in omission of those phrases in the seventh day.[2]

Second, its hinted in the scripture itself that the seventh day is a day of rest and it is indeed special. Exodus 20:11 clearly announces that God created everything in six days. While many Christians still use "seven days creation" and let their say: God also created seventh day. It is but six days of God's creation and the rest. Hence, it is not a good argument that other days could be ages because seventh day is a longer time.

Here again, let me clarify my thoughts. What I presented is that, perhaps we cannot use seventh day argument to show prior six days were longer times. But I didn't say that the six days couldn't be longer time periods. Even late Dr. Heiser, one of the reputed Biblical scholars supports scriptural and textual possibility for the six days to be long ages.[3] Although I myself take at present time the position that the days were 24 hours[4], it doesn't have association with literal time coverage on the earth. I personally believe the universe and the earth are billions of years old instead some thousand years (or say, Christians’ code 6000).

Moses and Israelites could have heard normal days while the days maybe longer period of time either (if the days were God’s days or the phrases evening and morning were just metaphors as in dawn of life, dusk of life[5]). Whatever the cases be, concluding six days as longer periods just because seventh day has no closing and opening, doesn't have enough weight.
