Finished reading this book from June 28- July 10, taking
almost 13 days and I had a great time spending with it. To be honest, it is a well
written book on Major Christian doctrines and in a possible simple languages
with adequate relevant contextual scriptures. Lots of contents from this books
has been a great blessing to me as it has well lay out structures with
sufficient and interesting sub-topics and associated discussion contents within
an umbrella of a particular doctrine.
It seems to have been designed as some sort of curriculum
book as it has reflection exercise section at end of each chapters and a list
of Bible teaching plan at end of the book. Furthermore, I personally believe
this book would be very useful to Christians or students of basic doctrines in
their Bible study. Even in their parts of disagreements, they can further
research and enroll in critical analysis with help of scriptures provided and
sub-contents presented in every chapters.
Meanwhile, it is written from a Reformed and Baptistic
perspective, there are obviously disagreements with the book on certain
alarming doctrinal issues such as spiritual gifts under work of Holy Spirit,
issue of free will vs predestination, eternal security and salvation associated
other topics. In these areas, I personally have lots of disagreements with the author.
Last but not the least, the book is obviously well designed
and its effort is praiseworthy! Despite agreements and disagreements, the book
would be of a great blessing to every Christian students in understanding Major
Christian doctrines. To put my final words, I am thankful for this book!
