उहाँ निश्चय नै मेरो आत्मिक यात्राको एक प्रभावित गुरु हुनुहुन्छ र म उहाँप्रति गहिरो आदर राख्दछु। तर यस भिडियोमा, म उहाँको व्याख्याहरूसँग केही असहमत छु। यहाँ असहमति भनेको आदर नदिनु होइन। यसको अर्थ केवल यत्ति हो कि कुनै विशेष विषयमा हाम्रो बुझाइ फरक छ।
स्पष्ट रूपमा भन्नुपर्दा, म उहाँसँग यस कुरामा सहमत छु कि अन्यभाषा बोल्ने कुरा पवित्र आत्माको बप्तिस्माको एक अनिवार्य चिन्ह होइन, र त्यो सधैं पृथ्वीका भाषाहरू हुनुपर्छ भन्ने पनि होइन। हुन सक्छ उहाँ सही हुनुहुन्छ कि अन्य भाषा एक सरल आत्मिक वरदान हो जुन हामीले परमेश्वरबाट प्राप्त गर्न सक्छौं, जसले हाम्रो बुद्धिको सीमाभन्दा माथि गएर परमेश्वरको स्तुति अभिव्यक्त गर्न सघाउँछ। त्यसैले यो वरदान आत्माको बप्तिस्माको अनुभवमा सबैभन्दा सामान्य र व्यापक रूपमा पाइने वरदान हो भन्ने देखिन्छ। उहाँले यो भन्नु पनि सही हो कि अन्य भाषा बोल्नु भनेको हामी आत्मिक छौं भन्ने देखाउने साधन होइन, जुन कोरिन्थका विश्वासीहरूले गलत रूपमा गरे, र न त यो भाषा केवल प्रेरितहरूको समयमा नै अन्त्य भइसकेको वरदान हो।
तर मेरो असहमतिको मुख्य कारण उहाँको जवाफको विषयवस्तु भन्दा बढी उहाँको प्रस्तुति र शैलीसँग छ। उहाँका उत्तरहरूले अहिलेको पुस्तालाई सन्तुष्ट गर्न सक्दैनन्। प्रशिक्षित र धर्मशास्त्रीय रूपमा जानकार मानिसहरूले उहाँको स्पष्टीकरणलाई दुर्बल र अपर्याप्त ठान्न सक्छन्। यदि यो भिडियो अहिलेको पुस्ताको लागि बहस अन्त्य गर्न बनाइएको हो भने, त्यस उद्देश्यमा यो निकै कम उपयोगी हुनेछ। अन्य थरिका साम्काप्रदायिक मण्डलीका शिक्षित विश्हवासीरूले मण्डली इतिहास, भाषाशास्त्र, र अनुभवजन्य परीक्षणहरूबाट निकै कठिन प्रश्नहरू उठाउन सक्छन्। यही कारणले यो विषय संवेदनशील र विवादास्पद हुँदै गएको छ।
मेरो तर्कलाई थप सुदृढ बनाउनका लागि, डाक्टर माइकल ब्राउन र साम स्टोर्म्सको प्रेरित २ को व्याख्या हेर्नुहोस्। ती दुवै जना क्यारिजम्याटिक पृष्ठभूमिका विश्वासी हुन् र अन्य भाषालाई अर्थ नबुझिने भाषा ठान्छन्, तर तिनीहरूले पनि प्रेरित २ मा अर्थ नबुझिने भाषा प्रयोग भएको थियो भन्ने धारणा अस्वीकार गर्छन्। यसैगरी, अन्य सम्प्रदायहरू मण्डली इतिहास र भाषाशास्त्रका आधारमा तर्क गर्न सक्छन् कि इतिहासमा धेरैजसोले अन्य भाषा बोलाइलाई अर्थ नबुझिने रूपमा भनेका छैनन्, केही अपवाद बाहेक।
मलाई लाग्छ कि आदरणीय बाइबल शिक्षक पी.ए. थोमसले यो विषय यति हल्कासँग लिनुभएको छ किनभने उहाँको लागि यी विषयहरू “मूल ख्रीष्टियन विश्वास”को तुलनामा खासै महत्वपूर्ण छैनन्। तर मेरो दृष्टिमा, उहाँका उत्तरहरूले “आगो निभाउने पानी” जस्ता असर पार्दैनन्। यद्यपि, उहाँको व्याख्याको धेरैजसो भागमा औसत ख्रीष्टियानहरूलाई उपयोगी हुने व्यावहारिक र प्रशंसायोग्य परामर्शहरू समेटिएका छन्। बाँकी सबै कुराहरूमा हामीले आफैंले गहिरो अध्ययन गर्न आवश्यक छ।
In English:
He is obviously my mentor in my spiritual journey, and I have a deep respect for him. However, in this video, I do have certain issues with his explanation. Disagreement, however, doesn't mean paying no respect. It just means we have a different understanding of a particular topic.
To be very clear, I agree with him that the gift of tongues is not a mandatory sign of baptism of the Spirit, and it is not necessarily earthly languages. Perhaps he could be correct that tongues is one of the simplest gifts that we can receive from God, which helps us to surpass the intellectual limits of expressing our praise to God. Hence, it seems to be the most prevailing gift that believers would receive during the experience of baptism of the spirit. He is also correct to say that speaking in tongues is not in any matter a sign to show we are spiritual, something which Corinthians had done, nor have the tongues ceased away with the end of the apostles.
But, rather than a point of disagreement, what I find issues with in his teaching is that he is not going with the flow of the generation. His answers cannot satisfy the current generation, and those who are educated theologically shall find his presentation very weak and poorly equipped. If this video is meant for this generation to help end the debate, his answers can barely help. Learned Christians from other denominations can raise critical questions from church history, language study, experience tests, and so on. This is why the topic is getting sensitive and often controversial. Even to strengthen my argument, check Dr. Brown and Sam Storms on Acts 2! They defend charismatic backgrounds and believe tongues are unintelligible languages, yet they reject the idea that Acts 2 could involve unintelligible languages. Other denominations could argue from church history fathers and linguistic studies to support the fact that barely any of them in the past thought speaking in tongues was something unintelligible except for a few exceptions.
I think Elder PA Thomas has presented his view in this way because for him these topics do not matter much in comparison to mere Christianity. But, in my view, his explanations cannot be water to extinguish fire. Meanwhile, much of the portion of his presentation has adequate and praiseworthy counseling that average Christians can obviously get. Rest, everyone should do enough studying by themselves.
