Video: Here!
Lily Jay is a great example on how we should not read the Bible! Literally she takes verses randomly out of context and what's more? The answers given by the Bible are all her fabricated answers! Its indeed a dual play! It shows her ignorance not sincere quest!!
Lily: hey Muslims and Christians I have a question
Lily's Bible: yes
Lily: who is Jesus
Her Bible: Christians say Jesus is God
Lily: but in the Bible John 17:3 Jesus says he was sent by God
Her Bible: but we say he's God in the flesh
Response: Long Before Christians, Jewish leaders recognized what Jesus was saying ... demanding his crucifixion for the mere blasphemy of calling oneself God! (John 5:18; 10:30-33) The book of John is indeed a book itself that is aimed at showing Jesus as God the Son! (John 1:1-18) Yes, he was sent by God, the Father! The God of the Bible is Triune unlike your Allah! Even Pastor Lutzer says in his book 'The DaVinci Deception' that it was Jesus himself who gave tons of evidence to his disciples that made them confirm he was indeed God!
Lily: then why does Matthew 21:11 say Jesus is a prophet
Her Bible: he's more than just a prophet
Response: Jesus is prophet in likeness of Moses! (Deut. 18:18; Mk. 6:4; Acts 3:22; 7:37) It was one of the offices of the Old testament. prophets used to be a mediator between God and his people to maintain the covenant and relationship with God. Jesus was the final one and the permanent one through whom we are bridged to God! (Heb. 1:1-3)
Lily: does Jesus ever explicitly say he's God
Her Bible: no
Lily: does Jesus ever say "Worship me?"
Her Bible: No
Response: Jesus never said he is God by mere words and that wasn't even the way how one would express his identity in a Jewish culture. Jews believed in God in heaven. Calling oneself God would confuse them. Jesus was distinguishing himself from the Father but also telling them he is another person who is also God. Moreover, Jesus' mission was more importantly of a Man and not to boast as God! To add more, where in the Quran itself, Jesus ever calls himself a prophet by mere words? Yet Muslims believe he was! Next, Jesus accepted worship that no mere men and angels dared to accept ! Why would Father tell that every knee shall bow down to him?
Lily: and in Luke 6:12 Jesus prays all night to God why would God pray all night to himself
Her Bible: Jesus was showing his human side
Response: God didn't pray to himself. Jesus prayed to Father which shows their intimate relationship. You better learn Biblical Trinity first and not Quran's false Trinity! Jesus wasn't just showing a human side but the true human side intended by Father! (Rom. 8:29)
Lily: in John 11:41 Jesus says he doesn't do the miracles by himself he says that God does the miracles through him
Response: Jesus did miracles through powers of God the Holy Spirit which shows his humble submission. Regarding death, he said he has right both to give his life and receive it back as well!
Her Bible: but that's how the Trinity works
Lily: what's the Trinity
Her Bible: father Son and Holy Spirit
Lily: is the Trinity ever mentioned in the Bible
Response: Next, Trinity being not mentioned in the Bible bothers you? Then Bible doesn't mention cat or zebra. So that should bother you too! Our roads shouldn't have zebra crossing and that's unbiblical right?
Her Bible: no ... it's better if you just don't ask questions and just believe you'll be saved on judgment day
Lily: but in Matthew 24:36 Jesus says he doesn't know the day of judgment if he's God how can he not know this
Response: Jesus didn't know the judgement day is another way of saying that's not our concern. While different valid explanation are available to this passage, the core theme is that Jesus was continuously telling his disciples to stay alert all the time. Be careful to check who he was speaking to. That's authority of Father he was referring to and has a Jewish context of understanding which you should consider studying. Jesus was alluding that it will be like a Jewish wedding when the father will give the word for his son to get his bride So he borrows phraseology from a Jewish custom.
Her Bible: god chose to limit himself and become weak while he was on earth
Lily: so God is weak
Her Bible: no
Lily: but you say he died on the cross
Her Bible: that's right
Lily: so God can die
Her Bible: no he experienced death to save us
Response: God did not make himself weak on earth rather he was made in likeness of us so that he could understand us! The scripture says Jesus understands our pain and suffering as he has gone through them! (Heb. 4:15) We have absolutely no excuse to say him that he doesn't know how painful is human life! God cannot obviously die but God can die as a Human because it is human who needs to die for sake of other humans in their place and none men are such holy themselves enough to take place of sinful humanity except God made Man! So Jesus can obviously die! Question to you: Does death of Martyr make them weak or strong?
Lily: save us from what
Her Bible: the original sin
Lily: what's the original sin
Her Bible: when Adam the first human ever was tempted by Satan and ate the forbidden fruit
Response: Jesus didn't just die for that original sin but also our inherited sin of past, present and future. He was a second Adam, who brought life to us. When a team plays football in world cup and loses, why does the whole nation mourns and feels defeat? In same way, the first Adam was representative of the whole humanity who brought sin and death while Jesus is the second Adam who brought back life to us!
Lily: hang on so you're saying that God punished all of humanity for one person's sin then he becomes human to crucify himself to save us from himself
Her Bible: it's complicated okay
Response: Nothing complicated! Punishment is obvious as God's law was violated but he also provided grace to humanity otherwise he could have started over the creation again from the beginning but he didn't. God's Son died for us to save us from God's wrath and eternal condemnation not from himself! Father indeed loved us so much that he gave his only son to save us!
Lily: very
Her Bible: look Lily Jay if you don't worship Lord Jesus he will not save you on judgment day
Lily: but in Matthew 7:22 Jesus says on judgment day he will reject those who called him Lord he will say "I never knew you away from me you evildoers." And in John 17 Jesus says "I am ascending to my God." Jesus literally calls God his God
Response: Jesus precisely said "Follow me and obey my commandments" (John 14:15) instead "come and worship me". He is not going to save us in the judgment day rather he is already saving us from the moment of time when we receive him in our life! Next, Jesus would reject those who will call him Lord? Is that how she understands that verse? That verse is a caution against those peoples who merely calls upon Jesus for their personal gain and does mighty works and yet their heart are far from him! In contrary, just remember Thomas also called him Lord, but did He rebuke him?
Her Bible: that is symbolic
Response: Jesus calling Father was not symbolic. He is actually conveying the restored relationship between God and humanity. Remember he uttered this after his resurrection. The moment after his finished work on cross! So whoever believes Jesus becomes God's children ! Jesus who was eternally a unique Son of God enabled us to be sons of God! C.S. Lewis said: Son of God became Son of Man to enable sons of Man to become sons of God!
Lily: then in John 5:30 Jesus says "I can do nothing by myself i can only do the will of him who sent me."
Her Bible: You just don't understand okay
Response: Yes, Lily doesn't just understand! Jesus didn't say he cannot do anything by himself. What he actually said? He said "..Will of him who sent me". Jesus was here to do will of his Father. What he was saying was his submission to God. He could do anything by himself but he chose not to. Remember his temptation, how devil tempts his capability to go against will of God! Yet Jesus doesn't get triggered! And that is what we are, as children of God, are ought to do! God's will!
Lily: and in Mark 10:18 Jesus says "No one is good except God alone."
Her Bible: It's a difficult topic to understand okay
Response: Jesus said nobody is good except God alone and same Jesus said he is good shepherd? What he was doing was a rhetoric statement showing the rich man that He is indeed God!
Lily: and in John 14:28 Jesus says "The Father is greater than I."
Her Bible: You are possessed believe in Lord Jesus and be saved
Response: Yes Father is greater than Jesus which is talking about Jesus' office and role not essence and nature. Why would then he say every knee shall bow down to Jesus or in book of Hebrews, why he calls Jesus God and his kingdom eternal?
Lily: if you go back to the Old Testament in Hosea 11:9 it says God cannot be a man
Her Bible: but this was said before Jesus was born
Response: Hosea says God is not man so that he should lie. Try reading full verses. John says Word who was God became Man and they saw glory of Jesus as the glory of the only Son from the Father.
Lily: if Jesus is God shouldn't his rules be eternal
Her Bible: god is beyond rules
Lily: so God changed his mind
Her Bible: yes exactly
Lily: but in Numbers 23:19 it says God doesn't change his mind
Her Bible: but Jesus is God's son
Response: God's rules is same. He doesn't change his mind rather we changed our mind on how we understand the scripture. Jesus is also said to be same yesterday, today and tomorrow. If God had changed his mind, then why so much drama of Jesus' crucifixion? Why just not simply forgive?
Lily: also in Numbers 23:19 God says he cannot be the son of man and Jesus calls himself the son of man over 80 times in the Bible
Her Bible: please just stop asking questions
Response: Yes, he calls himself Son of Man more than anything other titles and that's exactly how he was showing his true identity! Jesus calling himself Son of Man is reference to Daniel 7 which shows glorious view of his divinity.
Lily: I'm literally just quoting the Bible
Her Bible: have faith allow the Holy Spirit into your heart Jesus loves you
Lily: i do love Jesus but isn't it more logical to say that he was a messenger sent by God not God himself what do you guys think
Response: I do understand how much you love Jesus but isn't it logical to say you are trying to understand the Bible with your lens of Islamic faith? I just think you need really an honest study!
Lily Jay is literally quoting the Bible in same way Satan was quoting to Jesus. And her bible is too weak to caricature the real Bible!
Nice try! Yet, may God's mercy be upon you so that you may know the truth and Truth shall set you free!
