Dangerous doctrine - 4
Basics about common cults and False Teachings-2:
Imagine you found colorful posts on social medias with motivating stuffs that sound like Christian and foreigners speaking Nepali with a different book! You should be careful as they could be Mormons! Don't get hurry to dive into it just because they utter Jesus' name! (Gal. 1:6-9 in our context)
MORMONISM
Origin: In 1838, Joseph Smith claims he was told in a revelation that the church should be called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Members of the New Testament church were called “saints” (see Acts 9:32, Ephesians 2:19, Philippians 1:1), which is why Mormons call themselves “Latter-day Saints.”
They deny:
a) Only one God exists (Isa. 43:10; 44:6)
b) God has always been God. He never changes! (Ps. 90:2; Malachi 3:6)
c) Salvation is by grace alone through faith (Eph. 2:8-9)
d) Jesus is the uncreated divine son (John 1:1-3)
e) Bible's sole authority
f) The church can never be destroyed (Matt. 16:18; Eph. 3:21)
g) Either Heaven or Hell: No Middle Ground!
h) Jesus' incarnation as a result of Holy Spirit's intervention and divine work (Luke 1:30-35; Matt. 1:18-20; John 1:1-14; Col. 2:9; Phil 2:5-11)
i) We had a beginning (Gen. 1-2!)
j) Satan was initially a created heavenly being (Ez. 28:12-17; Isa. 14:12-15; Job 1:6-7; Rev. 12:7-9)
k) Jesus' atonement on the cross is enough (Heb. 10:10-14; Rom. 5:8-11; John 3:16-17; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 2:2)
Instead, they teach:
a) God was once a Man from the other world, who progressed from manhood to godhood through righteous living and persistent effort (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345) and is one of many gods! (Doctrine and covenants 130:22)
Mormons believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three separate gods. They also believe the Father and Son each have a “body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s” but that the Holy Ghost “has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit.” According to Joseph Smith, when Adam was formed in the image of God, it was a physical image. God the Father was once a mortal who lived on an earth. He died, was resurrected, glorified, and grew into his deified status. (According to Joseph Smith, there is a “God above the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”) God the Father is the literal father of all spirit-children, including Jesus and the Holy Ghost, whose divinity is derived from the parent-child relationship. Within Mormonism, Jesus is identified with the Yahweh of the Old Testament.
b) He also has a goddess wife! (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443).
c) Humans can also become gods! (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345-347, 354).
d) Jesus is a spirit child, not eternal Son of God! The first spirit to be born in heaven was Jesus (Mormon Doctrine, p. 129)
e) Bible is true only as far as it is translated correctly (8th article of faith). The Book of Mormon teaches that only fools say the Bible is sufficient and that other scripture is not needed (“Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible.” (2 Nephi 29:6)).
They accept four works:
KJV Bible: It gets rejection if doesn't align with their teachings
Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ (which claims to be a record of God’s dealings with the inhabitants of ancient America from 2000 BC to 400 AD),
Doctrine of covenants: a collection of “revelations and inspired declarations” given for the establishment and regulation of the Church of Jesus Christ in the last days (1830 AD – 1978 AD),
Pearl of Great Price: a selection of revelations, translations, and writings of Joseph Smith
f) John Smith was called to restore the true church in 1830
g) Mormons believe that there are different levels or kingdoms in the afterlife: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, the telestial kingdom, and outer darkness (Mormon Doctrine, p. 348). Where mankind will end up depends on what they believe and do in this life (2 Nephi 25:23; Articles of Faith, p.79).
h) Mormon leaders have taught that Jesus’ incarnation was the result of a physical relationship between God the Father and Mary (Journal of Discourses, vol. 8, p. 115; Mormon Doctrine, p. 547).
i) We all pre-existed before coming to the earth (Journal of Discourse, vol. 4, p. 218)
j) Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were all born as siblings in heaven to them both, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163).
k) Jesus’ sacrifice was not able to cleanse us from all our sins, (murder and repeated adultery are exceptions), (Journal of Discourses, vol. 3, 1856, p. 247).
Impact: Their present impact includes eye-luring posts on facebook and messenger groups for fellowship! Their posts are difficult to recognize for any false teachings at a face-value! They do entertain personal chats. Their group is flourishing in Nepal in present days! Make sure to consult with your church pastor, deacon, elders and teachers before you get into any suspicious groups or chats!
